Filmmaker Simon Pegg will be reading and signing at BookPeople tonight. The Statesmans Joe Gross Reader column Sunday took a look at the Shaun of the Dead actor and his new book, Nerd Do Well. Below are the first two paragraphs from that column. Read the full text here.

Simon Pegg, who co-wrote and starred in the cult favorite Shaun of the Dead, the cult-slightly-less favorite Hot Fuzz, and Paul, which bombed this spring, seems like that rarest of birds: A well-adjusted comedian you might actually enjoy having as a pal.

As is well known in our media-soaked age, comedians are often not the most pleasant, civilized, mature, empathetic or secure individuals. They are often hideously emotionally malformed absolute basket cases who use humor to translate brutal pain. Their baggage does not often fit in the overhead compartment.
